What to do for kids with colds or flu? How about for yourself?
There are several herbs that have traditionally and successfully been used for the immune system, to help build and strengthen the immune system, to help keep you healthy, and should you become ill, to help you get better. Here are some of my favorite herbs for this, how they work, and how they can help you.
Please note that it is recommended that for babies, it's best for the nursing mother to take the herbs and it will pass through the breastmilk to the baby. Babies digestive systems are not mature enough to accept anything other than breastmilk (or formula) typically until about 6 months of age or so (depending on the baby). If a baby isn't breastfed, then occasional doses can be given to the baby if necessary, but we don't recommend anything on-going or long-term until the baby's digestive system is mature enough to handle it (it could result in tummy upset or discomfort or possibly even diarrhea).
Please see the Children's Dosage Guide for dosing suggestions and further information. Please also see our general information on Tinctures to learn about tinctures, how to take them, the differences between the regular tincture and non-alcohol, as well as safety information.
For older babies and kids, we do recommend getting non-alcohol versions of the tinctures - they will like it much better and will be more willing to take it for you. If they won't take it, it can't help them!
