What is Swanson Calcium Carbonate, Aspartate & Citrate?

We all know about Calcium - we have done for years. In fact, if there's one mineral we can safely say we make sure to have plenty of - it's Calcium. How do most of us get it? The most famous source is, of course, milk. Many of us will remember being urged to guzzle down as much unskimmed milk as possible in our youth. Being reassured that it would deliver not just a solid dose of this essential mineral but also keep us fattened up for the winter months.

As it happens all dairy products are a fantastic way to get your Calcium fix. However, there is a catch. Different Calcium sources deliver different levels of absorption. For this reason you've probably already seen Calcium sold in a number of different guises and wondered - quite rightly - which one you should be taking?

Calcium is the most abundant mineral in your body. We utilise it mainly for the maintenance and development of our bones and teeth. So much so that around 99% of it is found there. When it comes to physiology though, numbers can be deceiving. Calcium is also important to keeping our heart, nerves, muscles and other body systems work properly too.

Swanson Calcium Carbonate, Aspartate & Citrate can help keep your bones, teeth and organs working properly no matter your age, status or diet. Simply follow a regular daily dietary supplementation, safe in the knowledge that your Calcium source offers you protection from every possible outcome.

What is Swanson Calcium Carbonate, Aspartate & Citrate used for?

Because of the nature of bone health - they are at their weakest when we are growing and also when we get older - there is a tendency to assume that the only people who need Calcium supplements are the young and the elderly.

However, conditions of the bone, like osteoporosis, are actually a gradual illness. It occurs because the bones lack density and become brittle. Even the name 'Osteo' (of the bones) 'porosis' (porousness) indicates a soft, sponge-like quality. In order to keep these kinds of illnesses away we need to be constantly watchful of our Calcium intake.

Swanson Calcium Carbonate, Aspartate & Citrate offers all of us just that - a constant guard to keep our bones strong and healthy.

Calcium Carbonate
An alkaline-based compound usually found in rocks or the shells of certain sea creatures. It is also commonly found in eggshells. With a whopping 35-40% concentration of elemental calcium it has more of the mineral than any other supplement. It is also useful for negating extra stomach acid.

Calcium Citrate
Unlike Calcium carbonate, this compound has an acid base, meaning that it is better absorbed by our natural stomach acids. Although it has a lower Calcium concentration, it does possess higher levels of bioavailability.

Calcium aspartate
Often described as an 'intelligent form of Calcium', it is actually used in other metabolic pathways to produce energy as well offering the highest rates of bioabsorption. Bound to the amino acid L- Aspartic Acid, it utilises the acid's high assimilation rate to ensure you get even more of this precious mineral.
