What is Feverfew?

Feverfew also known as featherfew or febrifuge is a plant which grows into a bush covered in yellow and white flowers similar to daises. The flowers emit a strong scent which acts as a natural repellent to insects, whilst the leaves are used in traditional natural remedies.

Feverfew is cultivated from around the world including many parts of Europe and North America for its health benefitting properties. The word “feverfew” comes from the Latin febri fugia which means ‘fever reducer” or “driver out of fevers”

What is Feverfew used for?

Feverfew contains a range of compounds, but the most active one which amounts to 85% of its make up is called parthenolide. Parthenolide works in the body to prevent substances from widening and constricting blood vessels that cause the inflammation which results in some common health complaints.

Taken as part of a balanced diet, Feverfew may help to reduce the following health problems:

  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Stomach problems
  • Menstrual discomforts
  • Joint pain and inflammation.
