From the Vitamin E family comes these essential but flexible nutrients. Playing an important role in the functions of the vitamin itself they help offer you healthier cholesterol levels and antioxidant protection for your cell membranes. From the patented DeltaGold formula comes Swanson Ultra Double Strength Tocotrienols, your most effective source of Tocotrienols yet.
Tocopherols, Tocotrienols, Vitamin E - you've heard of all of them but what exactly is the difference (if there is any at all)? It may sound a little confusing at first but when you get down to it, it's actually reassuringly simple.
Tocotrienols and Tocopherols are both nutrients which belong to the vitamin E family. Tocotrienols are integral to the various antioxidant functions of the vitamin, which range from protecting cell membranes to fighting toxic free radicals. Ordinarily they are extracted from plant oils like coconut oil, palm oil and rice bran oil. For most of us, these particularly esoteric oils don't necessarily form a regular part of our diets so unfortunately we require supplementation.
But what kind of supplementation? And why should we be choosing Tocotrienols over Tocopherols?
Within the group of Vitamin E, there are eight nutrients with two major subgroups, Tocotrienols and Tocopherols. Each of those has a ‘head' and a ‘tail' section, labelled beta-, gamma-, or delta-.
The Tocotrienols tails are shorter with high electron density whereas the Tocopherols longer tails have lower electron density. The shorter, thicker tails make the Tocopherols more flexible and versatile, meaning that they are more effective antioxidants by up to 50x. Swanson Ultra Double Strength Tocotrienols utilises DeltaGold patented formula to ensure exclusive Tocotrienol supplementation with none of the Tocopherol interference.
So surely we'd all just be better off adding both Tocotrienols and Tocopherols to our diet, just to be on the safe side? For a while, that was the common conclusion. That is until 1996 when scientific researchers discovered that the cholesterol modulating properties of Tocotrienol were found to be compromised by none other than alpha-tocopherol.
Their conclusion was that for effective Vitamin E supplementation, preparations should have less than 15% alpha tocopherol and at least 60% gamma- and delta-tocotrienol.
What the people at American River Nutrition realised was that there is only one naturally occuring source of vitamin E in the world which could fit that profile - the Annatto plant from Brazil. So potent is the Annatto plant that it contains 90% delta and 10% gamma Tocotrienol with 0% interfering Tocopherols.
Swanson Ultra Double Strength Tocotrienols offers not just superb antioxidant protection but also represents a major point of progress in the fight against high cholesterol levels. As well as this cardiovascular safeguarding it is also being explored for its potential to help in the suppression of tumour growth.
